Connect (X): As power costs keep rising, U.S. Towercos see opportunities and launch “power-as-a-service”

This Connect (X) follow-on research note focuses on one breakout session (“Powering the Network: Energy, Economics and Reliability in Digital Infrastructure”) about the never-ending mounting power conundrum. Held on Wednesday May 6, the session featured two distinguished panelists: William Miamo, the Director of Product Development at American Tower and Scott Tampke, the Vice President of Sales at Evoltix energy.

Both have very different backgrounds. The former has just relocated in the U.S. after spending the first part of his career in Africa where he addressed cell tower power issues. The latter, who has no previous telecom experience but boasts thirty years of experience in the energy sector, highlighted a significant shift in how the industry views energy. His perspective focused on several core themes regarding power costs and management.
