November 2025 MAVENIR 4.0: a Nouveau Départ with a telco-first, cloud-native, and AI-by-design approach

November 2025

Abstract

Just back from Dallas, TX, where I attended Mavenir’s annual 2-day analyst event and once again, I was not disappointed. Yet another new version of Mavenir was presented, I call it Mavenir 4.0. And as I’ve been covering Mavenir since its inception, here is the chronology of events that led to this fresh start (nouveau départ):

  • 2005-2017 => Mavenir 1.0: started with a unique focus on virtualized network software.
  • 2017-2023 => Mavenir 2.0: achieved global leadership status in virtualized mobile core software (i.e., messaging, voice, IMS, packet core), expanded software to its end-to-end product portfolio, and entered the open RAN arena, including radios.
  • 2023-2024 => Mavenir 3.0: achieved global open RAN leadership while maintaining its leadership position in virtualized mobile core network software.
  • 2025 => Mavenir 4.0: completed a comprehensive debt recapitalization in July 2025 that eliminated over $1.3B in existing debt and secured $300M in new senior financing; dropped the macro open radio business to refocus on AI-enabled networks by doubling down on software, cloud-native model, and mobile core domain expertise to deliver an AI-native communications service provider software stack. And to be clear, Mavenir remains in the open RAN software and the small cell business.

Mavenir remains the only US-headquartered end-to-end mobile packet core, open RAN and AI solutions vendor. The company serves over 300 communications service providers (CSPs) customers in more than 120 countries, including major names like Deutsche Telekom and Virgin Media O2, which is a testament to its market reach and trusted status as a vendor.

Strengthened by the debt re-capitalization, CEO Pardeep Kohli kicked off the event by delivering his usual corporate update stating that from now on, Mavenir will be leveraging its key core competences to focus on four strategic promising market areas:

- AI-enabled monetization
- AI for autonomous networks
- AI for RAN
- NTN
