Abstract

I’m just back from Berlin, Germany’s capital and largest city by both area and population, where I participated in the third edition of the one-packed-day i14y Lab Summit 2024 for a second year in a row. Out of the 200 people who registered for the event, 141 attendees from around the world made the trip to share their firsthand open RAN experiences. Put together, this group represented a subset of the vast global open RAN ecosystem and included:

• Communications Service Providers (CSPs): Deutsche Telekom, Telefónica, and Vodafone­­­­–Germany’s 3 major CSPs.
• Government Bodies: BMDV (Germany), Digital Catapult (U.K.), and NTIA (U.S.).
• Labs & Test Centers: event organizer i14y Lab (Germany), EANTC (Germany), ITRI (Taiwan), Rimedo Labs (Poland), and Sonic Labs (U.K.).
• System Integrator: Capgemini Engineering.
• Test & Measurement Vendors: Keysight Technologies, Rohde & Schwarz, and VIAVI Solutions.
• Trade Association: Telecom Infra Project (TIP).
• Vendors: Aira Technologies, BISDN, CampusDynA, Ericsson, Fujitsu, highstreet technologies, IS-Wireless, Nokia, Red Hat, Software Radio Systems, Tietoevry, and VVDN.

As expected, it was a very open RAN focused event that was marked by a festive mood. All attendees and participants stuck together from morning to evening to enjoy every bit of the well-organized and well-managed event. And there was indeed a lot to share and celebrate at this i14y Lab Summit 2024!
